To be a godparent or sponsor, an individual must:
- be a practicing Catholic, registered at a parish
- be at least 16 years of age
- have received the Sacraments of Initiation (i.e. Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation).
- If married, then the marriage must be a valid, sacramental marriage (i.e. one recognized and blessed by the Catholic Church).
- The above information is provided by the Canon Law of the Roman Catholic Church and, as such, may not be changed.
