Earlier today the Clergy Personnel Board met to make a recommendation to Bishop Zubik on the next pastor of Saint Aidan Parish. A little while ago, Bishop Zubik called to inform me that he is appointing Reverend William Wuenschel, our current Senior Parochial Vicar, to be the second pastor of Saint Aidan Parish. I am sure you join me in congratulating Father Will as he will officially become your pastor on Monday, December 28, 2020.
Another priest will be assigned as a parochial vicar but that has not yet been determined at this time. In recent weeks with my appointment as bishop of Youngstown announced, I have been extremely grateful to Father Will for all that he has done for me personally, and for the parish as well. I am so appreciative of his efforts as he has gone above and beyond the call of duty. As a brother, I thank him for his diligence and strong pastoral care. He has already been shepherding with a shepherd’s heart. I believe his familiarity with this community as a seminarian and parochial vicar will serve the parish well. I am sure that his parents, who were here on Sunday evening for the Lessons in Carols, and all of his siblings are thrilled for him.
Please pray for Father Will. Let us pray that through the intercession of our Blessed Mother and our beloved patron, Saint Aidan, that God will grant to him all the graces he needs as he accepts this new and exciting charge. He certainly is going to be blessed with what I believe is a wonderful faith community. I believe that for all of you the best is yet to be! If you want to personally congratulate Father Will, he is scheduled for the 4:00 pm on Saturday at Saint Alexis and the 7:00 am virtual Mass at Saint Alphonsus and the 9:00 am Mass as well. Best wishes Father Will!
Finally, because confessions were canceled this evening due to the inclement weather, please know that we will offer them again next Tuesday, December 22, at 6:00 pm in the Saint Alphonsus Parking lot. We will also have confessions on Saturday, December 19, at 11:00 am in the Saint Alexis parking lot.
Please be safe and well. God bless,
Bishop Elect Dave Bonnar
