ALTAR SERVERS:
Altar servers are chosen from among the faithful who display a desire to participate in an intimate way during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The primary role of the altar server is to assist the priest in the celebration of the Mass and other liturgies throughout the year. It is an extreme privilege to kneel so close to the altar as our loving Savior, Jesus Christ, becomes truly present. Youths, 4th grade and above,
or adults who have received the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Eucharist may become altar servers. Approval of parents is required for all school age children, and training is provided. For more information, please contact Jack Schuler at mrj3311@verizon.net.
ART & ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE:
Art and Environment Committee helps to decorate the Church for major liturgical seasons and holy days. For more information, please contact the Parish Office at parish@stalexis.org.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD:
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is the ministry in which adult volunteers guide young children ages three through First Holy Communion in experiencing an age appropriate reading of God’s Word. The children are dismissed part way through the 11:00 a.m. Mass and are engaged in the proclamation of the Sunday readings along with activities and music that enhance their understanding of the Word.
Children rejoin Mass following the Homily. For more information, please contact Paula Green at reled@stalexis.org.
EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION:
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are Catholic volunteers who have received the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation, be at least eighteen years of age and participate regularly in the liturgical and sacramental life of the Church. In addition, they must not be in violation of canonical law.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are commissioned to distribute the Eucharist at any Mass to ensure a timely and reverent distribution of Holy Communion. Outside of Mass, they may assist priests and deacons in the distribution of Holy Communion to the sick and homebound. Extraordinary
Ministers are asked to serve twice a month, and training is provided on a regular basis. For more information, please contact Jack Schuler at or Kim Schattauer at kshats@comcast.net.
GREETERS:
Greeters address a variety of needs at all Masses, including greeting and seating attendees, selecting gift bearers, facilitating the collections and distributing bulletins. The time commitment can be flexible. While many Greeters consistently attend a specific Mass, others prefer flexibility depending upon their weekly availability. For more information, please contact Steve Heckmann at fiveheckmannkids@gmail.com..
LECTOR/READER:
The Lector’s role is to proclaim God’s word to the congregation in such a way as to impart meaning and understanding. This requires an effort to first determine the intent of the scripture and then practice to provide a proper presentation. Workbooks are provided to assist with the preparation. The lector may also be asked to carry the book of God’s word into the sanctuary as part of the opening procession of the Mass. They also offer opening comments and greetings, introduce the celebrant, announce the hymns and make concluding announcements. This ministry is active at all Sunday and high holy day Masses and at other holidays throughout the year. Lectors are scheduled on a rotating basis, and the commitment is about one Mass per three week rotation. For more information, please contact Donna Bartlett at dbartlett14@comcast.net.
