Did you know that your family is a Domestic Church? The Second Vatican Council in 1964 stated, "The family is, so to speak, the domestic church. In it parents should, by their word and example, be the first preachers of the faith to their children" (Lumen Gentium, 11).
This means, that our families are a microcosm of the universal Church. Our families are where we learn how to love like Jesus, how to pray, how to forgive, how to participate in Mass, how to serve others, etc.
The recent Synod on the Family in 2015 asked, if the family is the Domestic Church, and churches are ordered by their liturgy, what does the liturgy of the family look like? Greg and Lisa Popcack, Catholic psychologists, writers, radio show hosts, and Pittsburgh natives, were part of the committee that answered that question.
The Liturgy of the Domestic Church Life contains 3 Rites that describe the sacred actions that make a family holy:
Greg and Lisa created Catholic HOM (Households on Mission) to empower families to live out these rites and sanctify their home life to be true Domestic Churches. Check out: https://www.catholichom.com/.
Join us as we explore these themes in depth through the Catholic HOM course! I (Darcy) will NOT tell you how to raise your children. But I will help you discover how you can intentionally bring Christ to the center of your family life, transforming your family to become what God created you to be.
